Running When Things Get Rough

Running, running for my life, have to escape this enervating strife.
So very tired, just want to die I'm even to tired to sit and cry.
Twice I'm awakened from sleep, told to eat and drink up.
You're going to need to strength, so it's time to sup.
Then a voice questioning, "Why are you here?"
Why am I here? I was doing Your will
Now Your enemies are all wishing me ill.
I don't understand Lord. why You let these things happen to me.
I'm left all alone, Why wouldn't I flee?
I've built a tall mountain, a monument of my work to You;
And, "what is this? This great wind that's suddenly flowing through?"
It's destoying what I've built, dashing the mountain into small rock.
Lord is this You? But no, I know that it's not.
What I now feel, the earth moving, trembling, shaking beneath me.
The things I'm feeling, they just can't be. Doesn't seem to be much left of me.
Now there is fire, hot flaming fire; burning away all self desire.
And I ask, Oh. Lord, is this you?
But I get no answer from the things that I've built.
The wind, the shaking, the fire of my own making
has caused my self ambitions to wilt.
And I hear Thee, suddenly, in a voice soft and still.
And again the same question; Why are you here?
And again I try, by blaming others to justify, but You're not buying.
There are other children of Mine. Just like them, They've work yet to do.
I'll let you know when you are through. And I'll be the One that builds, Not You.
