Enduring Peace John 14:23-31
Peace I leave with you;my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the wrold gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid....John 14:27
Peace--everyone wants it, but at what price? With the unrest in the Middle East, the continuing conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, and the unrest in other Muslim countries, peace may seem fleeting. Nevertheless, people disagree on the best method for obtaining peace, which causes more conflict ! Some think peace can only be achieved through war, while others think peace requires dipolmatic negotiations. Still others think it requires a combination of both. Ultimately, all sides want the same thing: lasting peace. The average person usually seeks a peaceful solution to conflict rather than an aggressive one, but sometimes aggression is required. regardless of how it is obtained, we desire lasting oeace and not just a world without war. Our desire for peace goes beyond anti-war sentiments. We want true peace. Even in Christ's time, His disciples
were troubled by the happenings around them and the thought that christ was leaving them. Christ had been with them for three years. he had taught and guide them on a daily basis . Christ knew the disciples needed reassurance, just like we do today. that is why when he was preparing to depart this world, Christ left us a gift: His PEACE-peace that transcends earthly strife and war, peace that comes within. Through the giving of His peace, Christ told the world that he would always be with us, no matter how dismal things seem here on earth. Even in the midst of terrorist threats and war, Christ provides His enduring peace so that we can live our lives without being troubled or afraid...
Prayer: Lord, as our nation is at war, please give us your peace so that we can face this conflict and all others in our lives untroubled and unafraid; through Jesus..Amen
