It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, LORD; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. How great are your works, LORD, how profound your thoughts! Senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. But you, LORD, are forever exalted. Psalm 92:1-8 TNIV Bible

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Psalm 34:4-7 TNIV Bib

He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. 'For the foundations of the earth are the LORD's; on them he has set the world. He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. 'It is not by strength that one prevails; those who oppose the LORD will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. 'He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.' 1 Samuel 2:8-10 TNIV Bible

"I am the door: by me
if any man enter in,
he shall be saved,
and shall go in and out,
and find pasture."

'I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:5-8 TNIV Bible

Revelation 3:20 is a beautiful verse that pictures Jesus trying to get our attention. He is knocking, but so often we don't open the door of our hearts. He says if anyone will hear him and open the door, he will come in. But do we hear him knocking? Are we even listening?

It's so easy for us to apply this passage to sinners who have never received Christ (and I think it CAN be applied to them), but Jesus spoke those words to Christians -- his people who come together and worship every Sunday. What that tells me is that it's possible to be a Christian and go through the motions of religion week after week with Jesus still on the "outside" of our hearts.

Can it be that we are doing all the right actions, but we still don't have a close relationship with Jesus Christ? And so he stands and knocks, seeking entrance into our hearts. Christ wants to be at the very center of our hearts. His desire is to have fellowship and communion with us on a daily basis. But he won't force the issue. The choice is ours. Do we even want him in our hearts, or are our hearts already crowded with too many other things?

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come into him, and will dine with him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20)

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:6-10 TNIV Bible

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 TNIV Bible
